A Guide to ChatGPT Prompts for HR
Top ChatGPT prompts every modern HR leader should master.

OpenAI just launched its OpenAI Academy, with various differentiated communities of users.
One of the most interesting is their “Work Users,” and when you click into that community, you will find “ChatGPT for your role.”
Then, click on ChatGPT for HR, and you will find a list of preset prompts focused explicitly on HR tasks. I list some of them here and provide my own thoughts on the use case for each. This is not an endorsement of OpenAI over any other tool; I found this information here to be useful.

TOGETHER WITH
Workspace experience and feedback
Prompt - Draft employee survey questions - write 6–8 employee survey questions designed to measure [e.g. belonging, manager trust, workload balance]. Ensure the questions are neutral and easy to understand. Format them as one question per line with rating scale suggestions.
My Thoughts - Most solutions provide research-based questions for surveys, so while this has a strong use case, you can likely find these questions already built into your survey or performance platform.
Prompt - Generate performance review prompts - Develop a set of five questions for performance reviews that encourage reflection, future goal setting, and actionable feedback. Tailor to [function/team], and keep the tone constructive and growth-oriented. Present the questions as a list for a review form.
My Thoughts - again, like the surveys, you have platforms that have teams of folks working on this specific thing. They usually have a templated set of questions that have been used for performance designations. Still, a prompt like this could be helpful if you are trying to gather both quantitative and qualitative assessments.
HR research & compliance
Prompt - Research global HR compliance updates - research the latest 2024–2025 HR compliance changes in the EU, US, and APAC (focus on remote work laws, employee classification, and data privacy). Provide links to official sources and summarize in plain language. Present findings in a 3-region comparison table with a 1-paragraph summary per region.
My Thoughts - this is one of those prompts where I suggest that you trust, but verify. While I think ChatGPT, Gemini research, and agents do a good job of generating a first draft, I would use this tool for its intended purpose: research. Always verify sources, confirm information, and consult with legal counsel for any specific questions or before making decisions.
Prompt - Explore top HR tech trends for 2025 - [You’re briefing HR leadership on tech trends.] Research and summarize the top 5 HR technology trends expected to shape 2025. Include use cases, vendor examples, and implications for mid-sized companies. Synthesize insights into a short executive briefing with citations and actionable recommendations.
My Thoughts - I love these types of prompts. The one thing where ChatGPT agents or Gemini excel is gathering data from sources. Being able to understand what people are saying and doing online research via these real-time agents is powerful. There was a time when they had only a specific dataset available up to a certain point in time. The new versions actively seek out information in real-time. I especially like Gemini, given its connection to Google search.
Talent acquisition & employee engagement
Prompt - Create interview questions - Develop behavioral interview questions aligned to our company values for a [role title] opening in [team/department]. We want to assess both technical skills and culture fit. Provide 6–8 questions grouped by competency.
My Thoughts - I really like this prompt. Too often, interviews are unstructured and have been less than perfect in truly identifying great and potential candidates. I vote for anything that brings rigor and insight to this critical motion. I would add the job description and some internal competencies to this prompt. Just confirm that you have the company version of the AI solution for privacy reasons.
Prompt - Write internal recognition blurb - Draft a short recognition message to celebrate [employee/team] for their recent accomplishment: [describe what they did]. Write it in a warm, appreciative tone suitable for Slack or email. Keep it under 100 words.
My Thoughts - recognition has the highest return on investment of any motion anyone can do within a company. The reason is that recognition is often very inexpensive and highly rewarding. But, we usually just say “Thanks” when we recognize folks. But what if we can draft something personalized and specific? The additional effort to load this into an LLM is totally worth the extra output and personalization. You won’t regret it!
Policy & program development
Prompt - Draft an internal policy summary - Summarize the key points of this [internal policy or handbook section] so HR business partners can understand and communicate it effectively. This policy relates to [brief description or context]. Present the summary in clear, professional language under 200 words.
My Thoughts - I LOVE this. Internal communication is super important to get right. It’s both an art and a science, and any tool that helps consolidate and summarize longer points or policies into a TL;DR format while conveying the critical information is a huge win. There is too much noise in internal communications, so use this prompt to cut through it.
Prompt - Draft a return-to-office FAQ - Write an employee-facing FAQ to support our return-to-office transition. Use this background information [insert key RTO plan details]. Cover top employee concerns (e.g. hybrid schedules, health protocols, expectations) in a warm and clear tone. Include 5–7 questions with answers.
My Thoughts - FAQs are a great way to provide information and communication to employees, and LLMs are really good at covering all elements based on context. This use of ChatGPT is beneficial and can help you think of questions to ask. Revise the prompt a few times and ask it to create FAQs from the employee's perspective, given the reasons for the change or return to the office.
Internal brand visuals & communication
Prompt - Design an internal DEI poster - Create a poster-style image for an internal DEI campaign. Style: bold, minimal. Include abstract representations of diversity (hands, overlapping shapes, color blocks). Mood: optimistic and forward-looking. Include placeholder space for a slogan or quote.
My Thoughts - while many of the early LLMs and AI tools would get this wildly wrong, they have all come a long way. There is now a race on image creation, editing, and even video with OpenAI’s Sora. I think designing the elements or content of the poster may be easier than actually creating the poster, but it could be a good starting point with some editing.
Prompt - Illustrate a hybrid work policy - Generate an illustration showing a hybrid work scenario: a person working from home, a coworking space, and a modern office. Style: flat illustration or soft 3D. Intended for use in HR documentation.
My Thoughts - the same as above, be cautious about the image capabilities of any LLM or AI technology. There may be more specialized tools for image creation that you can find with OpenAI, such as Canva and even Gemini Nano Banana. Please review the output in detail.
Lastly, with any of these prompts or others that you will learn, the key element in each one is YOU.
The human in the loop within any AI tool is critical.
These tools are continually improving, and in fact, since I wrote this post a few days ago, they have likely become significantly better.
However, it's essential to review every detail constantly.
You should have the time since the prompt did get you to the first draft.
What did you think?
Reply with your own frequently used prompts.
Happy prompting.
